Perfect: beret

Authentic Basque Beret (No. 1539). A beret is probably the most universal hat of our time: worn by jazz oboists, by commandos, by torch singers.

Worn by Hemingway running the bulls. Worn by Jean-Paul Sartre contemplating existence, or only another café au lait. Worn by Che Guevara, Tyrone Power, Groucho Marx, Picasso.

By the Guardian Angels in New York City, protecting citizens on subways from the encroaching jungle.

You should have one around. It will grow on you.

Authentic Basque Beret (No. 1539). Water-resistant Black wool, with Brown leather band. Made in France. You should have one around. It will grow on you.

Sizes: S, M, L, XL.

My husband, a dapper gent, has been wearing the L'Aiglon basque beret for years.

On a trip to Paris in '03 he looked like a complete twit because nobody NOBODY was wearing them. He looked like the biggest tourist nerd ever.
